Careers at Vaughan College

Teach where the student comes first.

Our faculty was chosen for depth in their subject and patience at the desk. We hire when the right teacher finds us, and we would be glad to hear from you before a role is posted.

Working Here

Our people make everything possible.

Vaughan College is a small school by design, and the texture of the school day depends on the teachers in the room. Classes here are small, typically a ten-to-one student-to-teacher ratio, which means our teachers work as conversation partners at the desk rather than lecturers in a hall. We hire for that.

The teachers we look for are confident in their subject and quietly committed to the student in front of them. They are willing to slow a lesson down for the question that deserves it, comfortable enough in their own knowledge to say I don’t know when that is the honest answer, and serious about the work of building foundations for the students who arrive without them.

We are also a small staff, close, collegial, and noticeably free of the politics that crowd the day at larger institutions. If that’s the kind of room you teach best in, it helps to know the school first: read about Vaughan College.

Come to us with enthusiasm, dedication, and a few years of your time, and we will give you the foundation to thrive in the world beyond school.

What We Look For

What makes a teacher right for us.

Subject expertise is where we start. Beyond it, these are the qualities we have come to recognize in the colleagues who fit the school best.

  • Patience as a teaching method

The students who change the most here often arrive with the longest catch-up ahead of them. We look for teachers who treat that catch-up as craft, rebuilding a foundation without making a student feel small for needing it rebuilt.
  • Respect for diverse cultures

Our students come from across the GTA and around the world. We hire colleagues who see the academic value in a classroom that genuinely welcomes that range and draws on it in the teaching.
  • A tight-knit community

We are a small enough staff that decisions are made in the staff room, not emailed from a head office. We look for colleagues who would rather be in that conversation than outside it.
  • Strong values, plainly held

Our values shape how we teach, how we decide, and how we treat one another. We do not need them quoted back at us in an interview, but we will notice, over time, whether you act on them.

Open Positions

We hire when the right teacher finds us.

We do not run open seasonal calls or post a long list of roles. Our hiring is rolling rather than seasonal: departments grow as enrolment shifts, and most of our recent hires were people we had been in conversation with for months before a posting ever went up.

If you teach in Ontario or are credentialed to, and you would like to be in that conversation, we would rather hear from you early. Send a short note and a CV; we read every introduction personally and write back, even when there is no role to point to that week.
