International, Requirements

What you’ll need.

The academic, English-proficiency, accommodation, and document requirements for international applicants, plus the deadlines that work back from each entry term.

Before You Begin

Nothing here is meant to catch you out.

Everything below is something we’ll work through with you. If there is anything you don’t have in hand, such as a translated transcript or an immunisation record from a previous country, we’ll help you track it down.

We’d much rather sort out a missing document together than have you delay the inquiry over it.

Academic

Academic requirement.

A minimum B average(roughly 70% or the equivalent in your country’s grading system) over the past two academic years, with no failing grades in any year.

A teacher or principal letter of recommendation. Our standard form is included on page five of the application package.

English Proficiency

English ability by grade.

We expect students to arrive with the English level appropriate to the grade they’re entering. If your child’s English sits below that level, we usually suggest studying English at home before arriving in Canada, or planning for an extended ESL term over the summer.

Accommodation

Custodian and family.

Every international student under 18 must have a Canadian custodian: a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, locally based, designated by parents in writing to be responsible for the student’s care during their studies in Canada.

Every international student under 18 must also live with a family. Independent living is not permitted. We assist families who don’t already have a host arrangement, through Canada Homestay Network, Homadorma, and International Students Canada.

Both arrangements are documented in detail at Custodianship and homestay.

The Paperwork

Documents we’ll need.

Forms referenced below are linked from the application package. Translations of foreign-language documents must be official and certified.

  1. Passport: a clear photocopy of the photo page (or a birth certificate where a passport is not yet issued).
  2. School transcripts: certified, translated copies of report cards from the last two academic years, plus any current term in progress.
  3. Letter of recommendation: from a teacher or principal at the most recent school. Our standard form is on page five of the application package.
  4. Signed Student and Parent Agreement: both student and parent(s) sign before the Letter of Acceptance is issued.
  5. Proof of homestay arrangements: submitted once a host family is confirmed (we help arrange this where needed).
  6. Notarised Declaration of Custodianship: required for any applicant under 18, signed by the parent or legal guardian in the home country and by the Canadian custodian here.
  7. Original and translated immunisation records as required by the Ontario Ministry of Health.
  8. Confirmation of medical insurance: a copy of the policy (StudyInsured or equivalent) submitted before arrival in Canada.
  9. Copy of the study permit: delivered to admissions on or shortly after arrival in Canada.

Deadlines

Recommended deadlines.

Applications are accepted year-round, but the dates alongside give your family enough time for the study-permit window. Applications received after them are still reviewed; we just can’t guarantee study-permit processing in time for that term.
