About French at Vaughan
How we teach French here.
In Core French we build grammar, vocabulary, and conversation in parallel. Class discussion, short presentations, listening exercises, and close reading of contemporary French texts sit alongside the structural work the curriculum requires, so students leave able to read a French article, follow a French podcast, and hold a real conversation in the language.
Why French Matters
An everyday Canadian advantage.
French is one of Canada’s two official languages and the working language of the federal government, the foreign service, and many employers across Quebec, eastern Ontario, and Atlantic Canada. A Grade 12 French credit is a hard requirement for several Canadian university programs and a soft advantage for many more.
Beyond the credit, our students leave able to read a French novel for pleasure, follow a French film without subtitles, or talk with a francophone classmate about something other than the weather.
Begin the Conversation
Wondering where your child’s French is now?
Our admissions team will look at your child’s prior French coursework, talk through their current comfort with the language, and recommend the right course to start from.
