Summer School

A full Ontario credit in a four-week summer term.

We run a condensed credit term in July and August for students upgrading a mark, fast-tracking a new course, or filling a gap before September. It is taught by the same teachers, on the same syllabus, in a shorter calendar.

The Condensed Term

A full credit earned in a single month.

Summer at Vaughan College is the same school on a shorter calendar. Sessions run for four weeks across July and August at the Woodbridge campus. Each course covers the full Ontario credit requirement of a hundred and ten hours of instruction, the same as the day program, with the same teachers and the same standard of work.

Most of our summer students come for one of a few reasons. Some are upgrading a Grade 11 or 12 mark to clear a university condition. Some are fast-tracking a course they couldn’t fit into the regular school year. Others are Reach-Ahead students entering Grade 8 who want to begin Grade 9 with a credit already finished. All are welcome on the same campus, in the same kinds of classrooms.

Delivery is flexible, in person at Woodbridge, fully online with live virtual instruction, or one-on-one and semi-private with a teacher per student or per table of four. The Ministry-accredited credit lands on the transcript exactly as it would in any other term.

How Summer School Works

Inside the summer term.

A full credit in four weeks

Each summer course is a four-week intensive in July or August. We keep all hundred and ten required hours of instruction and fit them into a shorter calendar. Classes meet in a morning or afternoon block, Monday through Friday, with the same assessments and the same final mark a regular semester would carry.

Upgrade, fast-track, or get ahead

Students enroll to improve a Grade 11 or 12 mark a university offer is contingent on, to complete a missing prerequisite before the school year begins, or to Reach-Ahead and finish a Grade 9 credit before officially starting Grade 9. The same four-week calendar carries each of them.

The same teachers and the same standard

Summer instructors are the same Ontario-certified subject teachers who lead our day and night programs. The Ministry BSID# 666098 covers every credit in every term, so a summer credit appears on the report card and transcript exactly as a September one would.

Flexible delivery

In-person at Woodbridge, fully online with live virtual instruction, one-on-one private, or semi-private with a table of four. International students upgrading from overseas often choose live online; local students upgrading a science prefer the in-person lab.

July and August cohorts are small and fill early. Tell us the credit you need and we’ll hold a place in the next four-week term.

From a Parent

What one parent told us.

Susan’s son arrived needing help in Chemistry, Advanced Functions, and Data Management. After summer-term work and ongoing tutoring, he was scoring above ninety in math and now studies math at university.

Thank you so much is just not good enough to describe the gratitude towards the professional way you taught and tutored my son for the last two years.

  • A student writing in a notebook by a sunlit classroom window
    ENG4U

    English (University)

    Grade 121 Credit

This course emphasizes the consolidation of the literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life. Students will analyse a range of challenging literary texts from various periods, countries, and cultures; interpret and evaluate informational and graphic texts; and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms. An important focus will be on using academic language coherently and confidently, selecting the reading strategies best suited to particular texts and particular purposes for reading, and developing greater control in writing. The course is intended to prepare students for university, college, or the workplace.

    MHF4U

    Advanced Functions

    Grade 121 Credit

This course extends students’ experience with functions. Students will investigate the properties of polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions; develop techniques for combining functions; broaden their understanding of rates of change; and develop facility in applying these concepts and skills. Students will also refine their use of the mathematical processes necessary for success in senior mathematics. This course is intended both for students taking the Calculus and Vectors course as a prerequisite for a university program and for those wishing to consolidate their understanding of mathematics before proceeding to any one of a variety of university programs.

  • A hand working through algebra on a chalkboard
    MCV4U

    Calculus and Vectors

    Grade 121 Credit

This course builds on students’ previous experience with functions and their developing understanding of rates of change. Students will solve problems involving geometric and algebraic representations of vectors and representations of lines and planes in threedimensional space; broaden their understanding of rates of change to include the derivatives of polynomial, sinusoidal, exponential, rational, and radical functions; and apply these concepts and skills to the modelling of real-world relationships. Students will also refine their use of the mathematical processes necessary for success in senior mathematics. This course is intended for students who choose to pursue careers in fields such as science, engineering, economics, and some areas of business, including those students who will be required to take a university-level calculus, linear algebra, or physics course. Note: The new Advanced Functions course (MHF4U) must be taken prior to or concurrently with Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U).

    SCH4U

    Chemistry

    Grade 121 Credit

This course enables students to deepen their understanding of chemistry through the study of organic chemistry, the structure and properties of matter, energy changes and rates of reaction, equilibrium in chemical systems, and electrochemistry. Students will further develop their problem-solving and investigation skills as they investigate chemical processes, and will refine their ability to communicate scientific information. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of chemistry in everyday life and on evaluating the impact of chemical technology on the environment.
