At Vaughan College, a private high school in Woodbridge, Ontario, inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education, students taking 12 of our online courses can now join the class our on-campus students attend, live by video call. The live classes are included in the course price, and each one is booked by email at least 48 hours ahead.
What are live classes?
Our online courses are self-paced. Students work through the course online, and an Ontario-certified teacher marks their work and answers their questions. When one of those courses is also being taught in our Woodbridge classroom, an online student can join that class live, on the days they choose, and learn with the teacher and the students in the room.
It’s a hybrid of online study and classroom teaching, and each student decides how much of each suits them. Many join for the units they find hardest, or to go over material before a test.
Which courses include live classes?
These are the 12 online courses we’re teaching on campus in Semester 1 of 2026–27, with each class time in Toronto (Eastern) time. Each course page also shows the time in your own time zone.

When do live classes run?
Classes run Monday to Friday from September 8, 2026 to January 15, 2027, the last class before exams. There’s no class on Thanksgiving (October 12), a PD day (November 20) and winter break (December 21 to January 1). Field-trip days vary, so we confirm each class when you book.
How do you book a live class?
- Enrol in the online course. Live classes come with it, so there’s nothing extra to add at checkout.
- Email admin@vaughancollege.ca at least 48 hours before the class, with the student’s name, the course and the date or dates you’d like.
- We reply with a link to join each class by video call, through Google Classroom.
- Open the link at the class time, from anywhere with a computer and a reliable internet connection.
After you buy a course, your confirmation email includes a button that writes the booking email for you.
Does it cost extra?
No. Live classes are included in the $580 price of each online course, and online courses need no application and no application fee.
How is this different from an online-only school?
Many online high schools in Ontario are self-paced only, with lessons that are written or recorded and no class to attend. Vaughan College is a school with a campus, classrooms and its own Ontario-certified teachers, so an online student who wants a lesson taught in real time, or the chance to ask a question in the moment, has a real class to join.
Either way, the student earns the same Ontario Secondary School Diploma credit, on the same transcript as our in-person students.
Who are live classes for?
- Students who learn best when a teacher explains a hard unit in real time.
- Students raising a mark for university applications who want to go over units before the final exam.
- Students studying online during the school day, such as homeschooled students, who’d like a class routine on some days.
- International students whose time zone is close to Toronto’s or a few hours ahead, such as South America and much of Europe.
Questions families ask
Can my child join every class?
Yes, as many as help while the course is being taught on campus this semester. Book each class at least 48 hours ahead; one email can ask for several dates.
What if the class is ahead of or behind my child?
The class follows the campus timetable, so a lesson may not match where your child is in the online course. Many students use it to preview a unit before they reach it, or to go over one again before a test.
Is the online course still self-paced?
Yes. Live classes are optional. Students can finish the course entirely online at their own pace and join a class only when it helps.
What happens after January 15?
Semester 1 classes end before exams. If we teach a course on campus in Semester 2, starting February 1, 2027, its course page will show its live classes.
More about how it works is on our online learning page.
